The American cabbage or coleslaw salad is the perfect companion for chickens and meats. Of American origin this salad is basic in any kitchen and we see it often on the menus of fast-food restaurants by the simplicity of its preparation.
The carrot and cabbage make a good team in this dish which can well be garnish with mayonnaise or a healthier with a yogurt or sweet mustard dressing. In best health have elaborated several versions of this appetizing dish that are ingenious with light dressings, exotic fruit and oriental flavours. Recipe 1: American coleslaw (light)
Ingredients:
- ½ kilo of raw white cabbage, finely chopped
- Three shredded carrots or chopped very fine
- 100 ml natural yogurt .
- A teaspoon of mustard
- Three tablespoons of olive oil
- The juice of half a lemon
- Salt and pepper
Preparation:
- Wash cabbage thoroughly with a bit of water and vinegar to remove bacteria and dirt may have.
- Possible more finely chop cabbage.
- Similarly, clean and peel the carrots. Subsequently, chop them with help of an electric grinder or a grater.
- Pour both vegetables in a large bowl and mix.
- In another bowl make dressing emulsifying manual whisk the yogurt, mustard, oil, juice ½ lemon, salt and pepper to taste.
Recipe 2: Salad coleslaw (oriental style)
Ingredients:
- ¼ kilo of purple cabbage cut very fine
- 1/4 kilo of white cabbage also finely chopped
- ¼ Cup of onion cut into small cubes
- 20 grams of salted peanuts
- Five tablespoons of olive oil
- Three tablespoons of Apple cider vinegar
- A teaspoon of mustard
- A spoonful of honey
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
- Clean thoroughly the cabbage, then cut finely.
- Mix them with the ¼ cup diced onion.
- Make the dressing together the oil, vinegar, mustard and honey. Season with salt and pepper and add to the cabbage salad for Eastern results.
- At the time of serving, add chopped peanuts over the salad so that the dish is crunchy.
Recipe 3: American cabbage and strawberries salad
Ingredients:
- ½ kg of white cabbage very finely chopped
- 1/4 onion brunoise (optional)
- Three slices of pineapple
- 6 strawberries
- Homemade mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper
Preparation:
- In a bowl, pour the cabbage previously cut.
- It parses medium diced pineapples and strawberries
- Prepare homemade mayonnaise by adding two eggs yolks, 1 teaspoon of vinegar (or lemon drops) in a blender at medium speed, while joins oil slowly. Beat until desired consistency. Add salt and pepper.
