Recommendations for beginners in Tai Chi Chuan
I hear oblivion, what I remember and what I do learn
Westerners always want to know before they teach us, form us an opinion. This is not bad, but act according to this opinion, without humility, can lead to errors.
Tai Chi Chuan is inscribed within a culture, China, more than 5,000 years, and of which we know only some names, Lao Tsé, Confucio, Chuang Tsé,... and just a few texts. Trying to understand this culture from our reference parameters seems to me a mistake and, although we can guess its foundations and its orientation, we trust that years of study and practice allow us a deep understanding from which to establish our own judgment.
On the other hand the Eastern teaching method differs from the Western and even though we can judge the appropriateness of the instructor to our character we have to take into account the principle that "he who knows does not speak, he who speaks does not know".
Tai Chi Chuan is an internal martial art and his teaching also has something internal, reserved. Choose a school and be patient, give you a year or two of learning before rating if the expectations that led you to practice this martial art are met. In practice, East is imbued by filial piety, this is a sentiment of love and deep respect in relation to nature (heaven and Earth), mother of ten thousand things (everything that exists), which is kept in relation to all the things and people that help our physical development intellectual and spiritual. Our relationship with the instructor and classmates must be presided over by the same respect.
During the practice we are all focused, the instructor to teach us and we learn, otherwise it makes no sense. As sign of respect for his effort is convenient to attend all practices and exercise at home, otherwise the whole group practice suffers. This is not without prejudice so that the relationship between us is a relationship of friendship, family, as it is in China. At the beginning it may seem difficult, soon, when others see your perseverance, seriousness and work you open their hearts. Not traicionéis them.
These recommendations may seem to you something dark. Tai Chi is not a sect. A pathway, a gateway to new horizons, a trunk of riches, of which each can get is what you want.
If your desire is to keep you fit and healthy, enjoy serenity and equilibrium, the simplified sequence of Tai Chi is an option. If after practice we are interested to know something more related to Tai Chi, perhaps approach the traditional teachings of China. It is also possible that you wish to cultivate the martial aspect of Tai Chi, or not. The choice is yours.
In terms of learning without instructor is possible only after know the basic principles of the positions and the movement. Without this knowledge, it is easy to make mistakes. In any case, the softness is the guiding principle.

Tai Chi Chuan is the art of action. His practice developed an energy that is progressively refined and increases the ability to be active with attention, flexibility and calming, (firm but not tight). This harmonisation increases with practice and each one develops in himself the art of action which manifests itself not only in the specific exercise but also in everyday life.
The influence of Tai Chi Chuan on the nervous system is so tangible as obvious. The balanced tone of the central nervous system by the unified implementation of the movements, exerts a highly beneficial on the whole of the body effect. This relationship between the nervous system and motor skills promotes the capacity of care, calm, and mobility.
Circular movements performed without breaks activate and strengthen the blood circulation, regulate blood pressure and favor the regeneration of cells.
Abdominal breathing has a great value in the therapeutic field. In practice, the abdomen is flexible and chest relaxed, making breathing deep, slow, uniform and soft, giving a better balance in the functioning of the respiratory system.

Tai Chi Chuan and psychomotor skills. During practice there must be a close relationship between flexibility and stability, breathing, the continuity and the fluidity of movement. The perfect harmony between all these factors make to highlight the benefits of Tai Chi Chuan on the tone and motor.
All movements are performed in a unified way, without ruptures. Movements are based on waist where is located the Centre of gravity of the body (the waist is the master, the body servant). The circular shape of the movements, the experience of energy and its direction, inside and outside, form the basis of this principle of comprehensiveness and unity.
The exercise of Tai Chi Chuan helps gradually to feel the connection between relaxation and stability in motion. In practice you learn to save energy which is neither weak nor rigid. Thus the abatement, the tension and the discontinuity of the gesture yield slowly to a harmony of gestures and postures. This aspect is linked in a regulation of breathing deep, slow and regular. Also contributes to a better job and a more conscious of energy control. Discover the relationship between the direction of movement, flexibility, and the abdominal breath with care is the means to achieve this balance tonic.
In the treatment of people decreased in the flat engine, the contribution of Tai Chi Chuan can be very beneficial. Two important aspects are related to this issue: the globality of the movement and postures help a person to feel a part of the body in relation to your whole body, on the other hand practice awakens a sensibility that helps integrate the decreased body part. In the case of long-lasting and hard-to-heal injuries, exercises of Tai Chi Chuan can develop a more unified perception of the body and at the same time contribute to improvement.
Psychotherapeutic aspects: inhibition of the body can express grief, anguish, distrust with itself, etc. The practice of Tai Chi Chuan can contribute to remedies and promote harmonisation and a progressive liberation movement, breathing and attention. The practice leads to feel fluidity of gestures, be rooted to the Earth, discover the softness in activity that affects the mind and perceive how we become less rigid and more flexible. One's consciousness itself in action, a greater perception of space develops at the same time a differentiation and unification between oneself and the outside, between inside and outside.
Attention on breathing allows that little by little the images and thoughts to express themselves unless one is invaded by this inner activity. The practice helps to perceive the movement of internal energy, to feel and to contain the wave of mental and emotional without flee activity and no luch
