Moxibustion is a form of therapy of traditional Chinese medicine that treats the disease based on an original element called "Moxa". It consists of applying on cylinders made with dried and ground leaves of medicinal plants on certain areas of the body surface in order to cure different diseases or cones (also called "pyramids").

Although Moxibustion was born before acupuncture, these two healing methods have been inextricably United, since - after practicing both methods of treatment in isolation during centuries - Chinese doctors discovered that there were many relationships between these two therapies. Both cure diseases acting on certain points, selected on the basis of the theory of channels and collaterals of the traditional Chinese medicine.

In addition, also found with clinical practice that the results obtained were better if combined both therapies than if used alone one of them. This shows that these techniques are not only compatible and complementary, but also they excite each other.

After many centuries of practice, it was concluded that the moxa who had better clinical outcomes were made based on "Artemis", medicinal plant that has many healing properties.

Currently the moxa is manufactured with "Artemis" exclusively or with "Artemis" mixes with other herbs to enhance their therapeutic action.

1. direct Moxibustion: It is the oldest method. Originally, Moxibustion was always applied with thisme whole. For to do, are placed on cones (also called "pyramids") made from "Artemis" directly on the corresponding points, according to the prescribed treatment.

2 . Indirect moxibustion: This method began to use later as an alternative to direct moxibustion. Can be applied in several different ways:

a) Moxibustion with insulating substance: this method consists of applying it using some material way of insulating material interposed between the skin and the Moxa cone. The latter tends to be about three millimeters in thickness and be leaky.
The insulation used for centuries for this function are slices of garlic or ginger, and salt.
Currently a few cones of cardboard or cardboard inside which the Moxa is deposited are used as insulation. Its design allows that this is separated from the skin by about three millimeters thick.

(b) with "pure" Moxibustion of Mugwort: this another indirect method is carried out with "pure" (or cylinder) made from medicinal plants. Are prepared by wrapping calls "you felts" or "Velvet" of these plants in a paper and giving shape of pure.

Form of application: turns on the "pure" by one of its ends. Then held closer grilled lit to the point that you want to heat, depending on the treatment. If you want to apply a gentle heat to the point, should keep the pure lit up this at a distance of 3 to 4 cms. To stimulate the point with a more intense heat, must put pure Moxa less than 3 cm. and move it up down and left to right, or in the form of circular on this point, so the heat is transmited continuously.
